Life is like a box of chocolates, at least it is in the latest collection from Viktor and Rolf, and this season you’re getting stripes, sixties sass and silky satins galore.

#couturecandy

Sherbet lemons, sugar-coated pastels and muted chocolate shades filled the runway at the Viktor and Rolf SS18 haute couture show last night. The designer duo took a step back from their usual voluminous shapes to bring us a collection of sixties’ silhouettes, seventies’ stripes and a colour palette that’s good enough to eat.

In an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ meets ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’ vibe, cute collars combined with mini dresses, ribbons and bows were paired with elaborate floral headpieces and mysterious masks. Soft pastels were punctuated with pops of red and navy, providing a whimsical colour palette that had us smiling like the Cheshire Cat.

In what has been a gloomy year for politics, the world of haute couture is a perfect form of escapism. Across the board, designers are using whimsy and fun as the main themes to pull us down their sartorial rabbit holes. Pastel tones and pops of colour are a nod to a brighter future whilst the sixties-focus harks back to a time of revolution and freedom.

The entire collection was made from duchesse satin (oo-er), providing a cohesive collection that was quite literally, all cut from the same cloth. Despite the fancy fabric, Viktor and Rolf have presented a remarkably wearable collection. It’s demure but kitsch; chic and sweet; a more wearable side to the avant-garde. It’s pretty and packs a punch.

Get in line ladies, stripes are taking Spring/Summer by storm. From tailored blazers to mini skirts and dresses, this classic print stole the show in every style. A lesson in how to update your stripes for the new season: contrast pastels with bold tones for extra oomph.

Florals? For Spring? Ground-breaking. We know, we know. But this year, Viktor and Rolf took it to another level with appliqués aplenty. That cute daisy number will be 'added to basket' faster than you can say #LUSTWORTHY.

As Gemma Collins once said, “you ain’t ever gonna get this candy” and unless you’re prepared to battle it out with V+R fans such as Zendaya, RiRi and Katy Perry, you might not be adding the real thing to your basket anytime soon. Luckily for you though, we’ve put together our fave high street picks to help you get your fix this season. #blessed
